Pastor Melodie’s Message
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Time. It’s one of those realities in our lives that we cannot escape. Whether we feel we have “too much time on our hands,” “always pressed for time,” or have “run out of time,” our personal lives seem to be dictated by this force which is beyond our control and constantly moving us forward.
Within the church we deal with the reality of time as well. We have our Lectionary Calendar, the Liturgical Year, the Church School program year, the Andrew’s Angel Preschool year, the budget year, and the calendar year, and so on – again constantly moving us forward whether we feel prepared or ready.
I suspect part of our issues with time is the fact that as time passes changes occur – changes in our homes, in our work or school, and changes in our lives. Often we’re not comfortable or feel prepared for the changes time brings, even when we recognize the necessity of change.
Here at St. Andrew Church we have experienced an important change brought by time moving forward. Marilyn Weaver, who has been our dear friend and secretary for our church for thirty-four years has retired, effective April 30th. After thirty-four years, it is now time for Marilyn to spend more time with her family – especially those precious grandchildren. We are incredibly thankful for the time Marilyn has devoted to our church, and for the love and faith she has shared with us for the past thirty-four years. Marilyn is always going to be an important part of St. Andrew church, even if she’s not the one answering the phone or dealing with our questions. We give thanks to God for the ways in which Marilyn has blessed us over the years!
This change has brought us to a new time, with a new friend and secretary as part of our lives. Mary Fitzwater started at the church on April 19th and will be blessing our church by working with us as our new church secretary. If you have not yet had a chance to meet Mary, I hope you will do so soon. We give thanks to God for the ways in which she will bless us in the coming months and years.
As the scriptures say, “God has made everything suitable to its time; moreover he has put a sense of past and future into their minds.” (Ecc. 3:11) So let us give thanks and praise to God for the times and the changes he brings into our lives.
In Christ’s peace,
Pastor Melodie
