Mission Projects

Saint Andrew is involved in numerous mission projects that serve the Muncie community and surrounding areas. For volunteer opportunities, contact our church office for assistance.

Habitat for Humanity

Saint Andrew has joined other churches in Delaware County in the “Building on Faith” project for Habitat for Humanity.  Each summer since 1999, Saint Andrew has had a faithful team of volunteers who put siding and soffits on some of the houses and performed various other carpentry and building tasks.  Church members have donated time and support in other ways to support this commendable agency.  An annual rummage sale is held at the church with the earnings being donated to Habitat for Humanity.  That money along with other contributions will support building projects in the future. If you would like to join the fun and fellowship and participate in this worthwhile cause, please phone the church office at 282-6466.  Sign up for a few hours, a half day, all day, or more — whatever your schedule permits.

Christian Ministries’ Food Pantry

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church is one of the area churches that contribute to the Food Pantry under the auspices of Christian Ministries of Delaware County.  Food is collected in a “food cart” in the Narthex and cash is donated for needed items.  The church can be proud of the efforts made by the congregation to meet so many of the community needs.  In 2004, food items amounting to over $1000 were donated.  The help and support of each member who donated food items, cash, and those who delivered the items to Christian Ministries is appreciated.  St. Andrew Presbyterian is truly a caring church.

Rebuilding Together of Delaware County

St. Andrew Church is proud to be a supporter of this private, not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to help homeowners who cannot afford private contractors and who fall outside of the eligibility rules for other social service organizations.  Eligibility is based on inability to maintain homes by their own efforts due to age or infirmity.  It is funded by donations and operated by volunteers.  This organization’s aim is to help others maintain a safe life in their own homes and to encourage them in routine maintenance procedures, thus promoting good family living and enhancing neighborhoods.  VHMP has received 501c(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.  Contributions are tax deductible.  During 2004, St. Andrew provided 300 volunteer labor days and donated approximately $1000 to this worthy program.

Emergency Fund

This fund and activity is a very important mission of our church.  Through the Emergency Fund St. Andrew is able to help many with prescription drugs and other emergencies that may become people.  The money is raised through donations from our members, special offerings, the Harvest Table (where our members grow their gardens and donate their bounty to our church for sale), the Christmas Post Office, and bake sales throughout the year.

In 2004 the Emergency Fund provided rent assistance for 29 families, utility assistance for 9 families, medication for 15 people, as well as providing fans for family services to distribute during hot weather. Our emergency fund often combines efforts with Christian Ministries, the Salvation Army, Better Way and Family Services.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Each November, St. Andrew fills and delivers 24 Thanksgiving baskets.  We are furnished the names of the families by the Salvation Army.  Members donate food to fill the baskets.  Monetary donations are used to buy turkeys and extra items needed to complete the baskets.  Each basket is delivered by a caring team of drivers.  Again, St. Andrew is a community presence when assistance is needed, especially in the time of financial strife.

Sack Lunches

Fifty sack meals are packaged one day each month by different Sunday school classes, circles, and other groups from St. Andrew Presbyterian Church for persons who eat lunch at the Harvest Soup Kitchen.  The lunches are served Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. without charge in the former St. Lawrence Catholic School located at 9203 East Charles Street.  The complimentary sack meals are then given to the lunch guests as they depart so they may take them with  for their evening meal.  Donations by the St. Andrew Benevolence Fund and contributions by church members cover the expense for the lunches that are delivered to the Harvest Soup Kitchen.  A church member then delivers the sack lunches on a monthly basis.
